Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Gateway to Torch
This launch puts you on Clam Lake, which connects to Torch Lake via the Clam River — about a quarter mile and a 5–7 minute boat ride west. When winds are high on Torch, Clam Lake is the fallback — its sheltered valley position keeps conditions calmer. If the Torch Lake launches are packed, launching here and running through the Clam River is a real alternative.
Tight but Functional
Single concrete ramp with limited parking. Reviewers say it handles boats up to about 22–24 feet but longer boats will struggle with tight maneuvering. The ramp itself is good — deep, clear water, concrete surface. It's the lot and approach that are the constraint.
Parking Fills Fast
Dirt/gravel lot with limited spots. Overflows on holiday weekends. One reviewer called it a 'secret boat launch' — it feels tucked away, but word is out. Weekdays and early mornings are your best bet.
PWC Caution
At least one PWC rider reported sucking up rocks and sand in shallow areas of the lake, resulting in expensive repairs. The ramp area is deep and clear, but watch your depth elsewhere on the lake — it's only 27 feet at max and has shallow stretches.
Water Trail Trailhead
This is a designated trailhead on the Chain of Lakes Water Trail. Carry-in and developed launch. Connects to the Grass River Route east toward Lake Bellaire, and the Lower Chain Route west toward Torch Lake.
Exit Issue
At least one reviewer notes that cutting the drive through the north side hill to allow trailers to exit would significantly improve the site. As it stands, maneuvering out with a trailer requires backing or a tight turn.
