Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Basic Access
Small, unimproved ramp with 6 trailer spots on gravel and 5 vehicle-only spots. No dock, no pier. Vault toilet on site. Quiet launch — most visitors are paddling the Upper Chain route, not launching motorboats.
Portage Point
The portage between St. Clair Lake and Ellsworth Lake is at the western end near the town of Ellsworth — paddlers heading downstream need to cross the road to continue to Ellsworth Lake.
Natural Area Access
Paddling east from this launch takes you through the St. Clair Lake / Six Mile Lake Natural Area — 255 acres of protected undeveloped riverine habitat along the Sinclair River. One of the most ecologically significant stretches of the entire Elk River Chain. Worth the paddle.
