Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Chain Headwater
This is the farthest upstream you can launch a boat in the entire Elk River Chain of Lakes. From here you can travel downstream through St. Clair Lake, Ellsworth Lake, Wilson Lake, and all the way to the dam in Bellaire. Paddlers can portage around dams to reach Grand Traverse Bay — over 40 water miles.
The Ramp
Gravel road leads to a concrete ramp. Vault toilet, parking, and trailer parking available. 4 trailer spots per DNR data — small lot. Water trail trailhead for the Upper Chain Route.
Weedy Lake
Six Mile Lake has profuse aquatic plant growth — pondweeds, watermilfoil, and lily pads, especially in shallow areas and coves. Eurasian watermilfoil is present and being managed. Keep your prop clear and inspect your boat for invasive species when leaving.
