Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Real Ramp
Despite being listed as a boat launch, there are no formal lanes or trailer parking here. There's a basic ramp area that works fine for kayaks, canoes, and small cartop boats, but don't show up expecting to back a trailer down. If you need a proper trailer launch, head to the Escanaba municipal launch nearby — it runs about $4 and gives you full access to Little Bay de Noc.
Kayaker's Sweet Spot
This is honestly one of the best paddle launches on Little Bay de Noc. The island creates a natural harbor with protected water on the inside, so you can put in and paddle the perimeter without getting hammered by open Lake Michigan chop. Calm mornings you'll see mink running the rocks along the shoreline — worth the early start.
Parking Is Easy
The south wing of the island has plenty of beach parking, and even on summer weekends you're unlikely to get shut out. It's a locals' hangout more than a tourist magnet, so mid-week you might have the place nearly to yourself.
Seasonal Considerations
Prime time is June through September when the beach and paths are fully accessible. By late October it's still gorgeous for a walk but the water's done. The paved bike/walk path extends out to the tip of the island with benches along the way — a solid stretch of the legs while your buddy fishes off the rocks.
