Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Combat Fishing Central
During salmon runs (September–October) and steelhead season (spring), the bank below the dam is shoulder-to-shoulder. If you show up after work on a weekday, you probably won't find casting room. Get there at dawn or be prepared to hike a mile downstream to find open water.
Single Lane Bottleneck
One lane for a spot this popular means you'll wait during peak salmon season weekends. The 43 trailer spots fill fast, but there's overflow parking near the headquarters building — know where that is before you pull in or you'll be circling.
Skip The Stairs Side
There's access on the other side of the river via a staircase, but it's about a 20-minute drive between the two and the lower recreation area side is dramatically better for actually getting to the water. Don't accidentally end up over there.
Night Bite Is Real
Salmon fishing picks up significantly after dark here. Plenty of regulars set up in the evening and fish well into the night. The fish cleaning station on-site is a huge plus — not every river access point around here has one.
Vault Toilets Are Rough
The vault toilets here are notoriously under-maintained, especially during busy salmon season when the place is packed. Don't count on a pleasant experience. The campground itself is rustic but well-spaced with hand-pump water — just set your bathroom expectations low.
