Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Speck Fleet's Home Ramp
Lochloosa Park is where the winter crappie fleet launches: two concrete lanes and a floating dock on the northeast shore, free, open around the clock, flush restrooms — the full public package on a lake that otherwise keeps things primitive. When the drift bite is on, back in before gray light; the fish and the fleet both start early.
Boardwalk and Gazebo
The park's other half is nearly 450 feet of undeveloped shoreline with a boardwalk and wildlife-viewing gazebo — legitimately good birding, and the county's own page states plainly that large alligators are abundant. Bring the camera, keep the dog leashed, and treat the water's edge with old-Florida respect.
Deep Enough When Nothing Else Is
In the current drought this ramp is quietly precious: FWC reports Lochloosa still plenty deep to launch while lakes all around have gone small-craft-only. If your boat's been stuck on the trailer this season, this is the north-central ramp that will still take it — with caution near shore, where the margins run thinner than usual.
Two-Lake Days, Water Permitting
At normal levels, Cross Creek's mouth on the south end opens the storied small-boat run to Orange Lake. Right now the creek passes only the smallest craft — so plan Lochloosa as the whole day, which it rewards anyway.
