Downtown's Free Ramp
The public ramp at the Sanford Marina is the city's own door to its lake — free, with parking that's rarely a problem, and the whole historic downtown a short walk away. Big boats use it routinely; a 29-footer splashing here surprises nobody.
The Tight Tow
The tradeoff: you tow through downtown Sanford's streets to get here, and they were platted for the steamboat era. Manageable with patience, tight with a big rig — the west-end ramps skip the squeeze if the trailer's oversized.
Mid-Lake Position
The marina sits mid-shore, which cuts both ways: equidistant to everything, closest to nothing. For days on the open lake, the Riverwalk waterfront, or the upstream run toward Lake Harney country, it's the natural start — and lunch is a walk, not a drive.
Check the Rail Bridge
Bound downriver? The railroad bridge west of I-4 occasionally closes fully for maintenance — it's been shut for painting before, blocking the run. A quick check saves a long idle back.
