Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Launch and Retrieve Only
One lane and a fixed dock at the end of Banfill Road in old Grayton Beach, free and open around the clock — launch and retrieve only, with no parking of trailers or boats, period. Drop the boat, move the rig, come back for pickup.
The 24-Hour Side
When the state park gate is closed — before 8 AM, after sunset, or at peak-season capacity — this is Western Lake's only door. Dawn-mist paddles and moonlight glass launches start here by definition.
Old Grayton Launch
You're launching from one of the oldest beach townships on this coast — sandy lanes, live oaks, and the west arm of the lake winding toward WaterColor's boathouse. The paddle east toward the dunes and the outfall is a mile of the prettiest dark water on 30A.
Small Boats, Softer Still
The approach runs sandy and shallow, and the whole lake tops out around five feet — kayaks, boards, canoes, and small tiller boats are the right fleet here. If it needs a ramp dock and a deep breath to float, launch somewhere else.
