Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Shallow Channel Warning
The channel where the Black River meets Lake Huron sands in regularly and often sits at only 3-4 feet deep. If you're running anything with a deeper draft, you can easily get stuck. They usually dredge it once a year, but timing varies — early season can be especially dicey before the crews get out there.
Dual Water Access
One of the few spots where you can choose your adventure right from the ramp — head out the channel into Lake Huron or work your way upriver on the Black. Makes it a great launch for kayakers and small boats looking to mix it up without trailering twice.
Dock Size Limit
The dock works fine for boats under 21 feet, but anything bigger and you're going to have a tough time staging or tying off. Plan to have someone on the trailer ready if you're launching a larger rig.
Parking Fills Midday
27 trailer spots sounds reasonable until you realize the ramp shares space with a day-use park that draws families all summer. Weekend afternoons get tight fast. Get there before 9 AM on Saturdays or you might be circling. No overnight parking allowed, so don't plan on leaving your trailer.
