Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Carry-In Only
No ramp and no trailer parking — this is strictly a hand-launch spot for canoes and kayaks. Don't show up expecting to back a trailer down to the water.
Rough Access Road
The two-track in here is bumpy and narrow. A truck handles it fine, but low-clearance vehicles will scrape. Take it slow, especially after rain.
Limited River Access
Once you're on the West Branch Whitefish, the paddleable stretch from this put-in is short in both directions. Great for a quick float or a few hours of fishing for brook trout, but don't plan an all-day river trip from here.
Mosquito Hell In Spring
Early spring through June, the bugs here are absolutely vicious. Bring a head net and douse yourself — you're deep in state land with standing water everywhere. By midsummer it mellows out some.
Primitive But Pretty
There are a handful of primitive campsites nearby, but don't expect maintained facilities. The outhouse situation is questionable at best. That said, it's a gorgeous, quiet stretch of river in classic Upper Peninsula country — worth the tradeoff if you come prepared.
