Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Motors Allowed
This is a paddle-only lake — no motorized watercraft permitted. Perfect for kayaks, canoes, and small fishing boats, but leave the outboard at home. If you're looking to launch a powerboat, you'll need to head elsewhere in Allegan County.
Tiny Launch, Tight Fit
One lane and only three trailer spots, so you're basically limited to hand-launching kayaks and canoes or sliding in a small jon boat. Don't show up with a 20-footer expecting to get on the water. The launch area is more of a carry-in situation than a proper ramp.
Shore Fishing Is Tough
The shoreline is mostly overgrown and the lake drops off slowly, so fishing from the bank is basically a non-starter. You really need a kayak or small boat to get to anything worthwhile. Plan accordingly.
Mosquitoes Are Brutal
If you're anywhere near the lake from late May through September, the mosquitoes are relentless — especially at dawn and dusk near the water's edge. High-DEET spray isn't optional, it's survival gear. Loading and unloading at the launch can turn into a blood donation event if you're not prepared.
Campground Chaos Factor
The surrounding campground is rustic and can get rowdy on weekends, especially summer holidays. Generators drone from evening through morning, and late-night noise is common. If you're planning an early morning paddle launch, just be aware the access road runs through the campground and things can be unpredictable after dark.
