Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Pay Gate Headaches
The $3 automated gate system glitches more than you'd like. If you plan to use this launch regularly, spring for the season pass — it saves you money and skips the gate drama entirely.
Parking Across Street
All 34 trailer spots are across the road from the ramp. Not a huge deal, but on busy summer weekends you're crossing a fairly active road to get back to your vehicle. Drop your crew and gear first, then move the truck.
Weekend Launch Chaos
Hot summer weekends get backed up at the two lanes because a lot of casual boaters struggle with the launch routine. If you're trying to get on the water Saturday morning, aim for before 9 AM or you'll be waiting while someone figures out their trailer for the first time.
Rocky Shallow Shoreline
The nearshore area has a lot of small rocks on the bottom. Wear water shoes if you're wading around the ramp area. The ramp itself is in decent shape and the water depth is adequate for most boats, but the surrounding lakebed is unforgiving on bare feet.
Weekday Sweet Spot
Come midweek and this place is a completely different experience — no lines at the ramp, easy parking, and Gun Lake practically to yourself. It's a well-maintained launch with clean restrooms, which puts it a step above some of the more neglected options in the area.
