Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Rough Access Road
The road in is genuinely rough — deep ruts, loose gravel, and it gets worse after rain. Low-clearance vehicles and long trailers are going to have a bad time. Take it slow and expect to bounce around for the last quarter mile.
Parking Is Tight
Six trailer spots and that's it. On any decent weekend morning, you're out of luck by 8 AM. There's no real overflow area either, so if you're running late you'll end up blocking someone or turning around.
Dumpster Situation
There's a dumpster near the ramp that doesn't get emptied often enough. When it's full in the summer heat, the smell is brutal and it leaks runoff toward the water. People also leave trash scattered around the launch area — bring a bag if you want a clean spot to stage.
Second Ramp Option
There's a smaller gravel ramp just to the east that most people don't know about. If the main lane is backed up or the parking is full, it's worth checking. It's more bare-bones but can save you a headache on a busy day.
Big Lake, Small Launch
Lake Allegan is almost 1,600 acres with solid fishing and plenty of room to move, but this launch doesn't match the water. One lane, minimal parking, and a road that feels forgotten. If you're running anything over 18 feet, the Allegan Dam area launches are easier to deal with.
