Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Real Ramp
Zero lanes here — this is a carry-in or dock-drop situation. You can get a small fishing boat or kayak in off the shoreline, but don't show up expecting to back a trailer down a concrete ramp. Anything over 16 feet is going to be a headache.
Spring-Fed Clarity
Beaver Lake is spring-fed with surprisingly clear water. Great visibility for spotting structure, but it also means the lake stays cold well into June. The clear bottom makes it easy to see what you're navigating around in the shallows near shore.
Campground Is the Gateway
Lake access runs through the Alpena County campground, so you're sharing the waterfront with campers, swimmers, and kids on the dock. Weekdays are mellow, but summer weekends the dock area gets busy by mid-morning. Best to launch early if you want a smooth put-in.
Parking Is Tight
Ten trailer spots sounds fine until a few seasonal campers park their extra vehicles there. On holiday weekends you might be circling. If you're just kayaking, you can usually find a pull-off spot closer to the water, but trailer rigs need to plan ahead.
Quiet Water, Small Lake
This is a no-wake or very low-traffic lake — perfect for panfish, kayaking, and lazy pontoon days. Don't expect big-water action. If you're looking for walleye runs or serious trolling, Long Lake or Grand Lake are better bets nearby. Beaver is the spot when you want solitude and a rod in the water.
