Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Kayak Launch Only
There's no real boat ramp here — zero lanes. This is a carry-in spot for kayaks, canoes, and tubes. A natural limestone shelf along the bank makes it surprisingly easy to slide in and out, but forget about trailering anything bigger than what you can carry.
Sucker Season Madness
Spring sucker runs pack this place out. With only 5 trailer spots in a small gravel lot, you'll be circling or parking on the shoulder if you show up mid-morning. Get there before 1 PM on weekends or you're out of luck.
Fourth of July Zoo
The weekend closest to the 4th, the river is absolutely wall-to-wall with tubers, kayakers, and waders. Fun atmosphere if that's your thing, but if you want a peaceful paddle, pick literally any other weekend.
Litter Is A Problem
The limestone terracing and crystal-clear water make this spot genuinely gorgeous, but people trash it relentlessly. Broken glass, cans, food wrappers along the banks — especially after holiday weekends. Watch where you step getting in and out.
Shallow And Fast
The Rifle moves quick through here and runs shallow, especially by mid-summer. You'll scrape bottom in a kayak if water levels drop. Great for tubing when there's flow, but check the gauge before driving out — low water turns it into a rocky drag.
