Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Plank Ramp, Small Boats
This isn't a concrete ramp — it's 4x12 wood planks. Fine for canoes, kayaks, and small aluminum boats, but don't try backing a heavy rig down it. You're really only parking two trailers here anyway.
Long Dirt Road In
Plan on 5-6 miles of single-lane dirt road from the highway to reach the lake. Any vehicle can handle it, but it's slow going — figure 10-15 minutes each way. No cell service back in there either, so have your plans sorted before you turn off US-41.
Mosquitoes Are Legendary
I cannot stress this enough — the bugs here will carry you away. Douse yourself with DEET before you even turn down the access road. Once you're at the lake and opening doors, they swarm instantly. It's deep UP woods with standing water everywhere.
Gem of a Lake
King Lake is studded with small islands and barely sees any pressure. Bluegill and perch are reliable, and bigger fish are in there too. It's one of those spots where you'll have the whole lake to yourself on a weekday.
First-Come Campsite Grab
Only 6 rustic sites and no reservations — it's pay-the-pipe, first come first served. On summer weekends you could drive that whole dirt road and find it full. Mid-September and later you'll usually snag a spot, but showing up after dark on a Saturday is a gamble.
