Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Ramp Has Hazards
The concrete is in rough shape — there's exposed rebar and a significant hole near the dock side that can swallow a trailer tire. Stay toward the center of the ramp and do a quick walk-down before you back in. I've seen a popped trailer tire here from the rebar alone.
Tight Parking Squeeze
Only 12 trailer spots and they're packed close together. Maneuvering a longer rig to back down or pull out with trucks on both sides of you is a real test of patience. On summer weekends, expect it to fill by mid-morning — there's no overflow option.
Gate Will Bite You
The entry gate has a reputation for coming down on boats. It's caught at least a couple rigs a season. Don't hesitate or slow-roll through it — commit and keep moving once it lifts, especially if you're pulling a tall center console or T-top.
Pay-to-Play Every Time
$7 each way, even if you own property on the lake. Booth is staffed and the attendant is known to be aggressive about ticketing — make sure your receipt or pass is clearly displayed. Township office is only open three days a week if you need to sort out a dispute.
Fishing Makes Up For It
Despite the launch headaches, Upper Crooked is a fantastic panfish lake. Bluegill limits are very doable, and there's solid bass mixed in among the weeds. It's a quieter, more peaceful experience than a lot of southern Michigan lakes, which is why people put up with the ramp issues.
