Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Walleye Central
This is the spot for Saginaw River walleye jigging — you're right in the heart of it. Spring runs bring serious crowds, especially weekend mornings from mid-April through May. Get there before sunrise if you want a dock and a smooth launch.
Protected From Current
The ramp sits off the main river current, which is a huge deal if you're loading or unloading solo. You're not fighting the flow while trying to winch your boat onto the trailer. That alone makes this better than other Saginaw River options.
Brand New Facility
Everything was redeveloped in 2023 — fresh concrete, eight lanes, 123 trailer spots. It's about as dialed-in as a public launch gets in this part of Michigan. Don't expect the beat-up, crumbling ramps you're used to elsewhere on the river.
Shallow At The Mouth
Water depth can get thin, especially later in summer or during low-water years. If you're running a deeper-draft boat, pay attention to your depth finder heading out toward the bay. The ramp itself launches fine, but the river mouth can surprise you.
Paid Parking Heads-Up
There's a daily fee or you can grab a discounted annual pass — it's administered by Bay City State Park. Don't blow past the pay station or you'll come back to a ticket. The USS Edson warship parked right next to the launch is hard to miss and makes a handy landmark for first-timers finding the entrance.
