Veterans Park

During the spring walleye run, the Saginaw River turns into a boat parade — hundreds of boats on the water. Despite having only 20 trailer spots, overflow parking on the grass and along the drives handles the surge surprisingly well. Show up before 6 AM on weekends in late March through April or you're circling.

The paved areas getting in and out are beat up — potholes and crumbling edges that'll rattle your trailer. Take it slow, especially with a longer rig. The mowing is kept up nicely but the infrastructure hasn't seen investment in a while.

This stretch of the Saginaw produces seriously good freshwater drum and channel catfish. Five-pounders on catfish are routine if you're fishing bait on the bottom. Bank fishing is solid too — plenty of access along the shoreline without needing a boat.

There's some adjacent private property with no clear signage marking boundaries. Stick to the obvious park areas and the launch itself. If you wander too far from the ramp and main green space, you might get an earful from a neighboring landowner who doesn't appreciate visitors on his side of the line.

Outside of walleye season, this place is genuinely peaceful on weekdays — wide open parking, nobody waiting at the two-lane ramp, good shade trees for a lunch break. Weekends pick up but it's nothing like the spring madness. A solid no-fuss launch for getting on the Saginaw without dealing with the Bay City crowds downstream.
