Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Ramp Here
This is a carry-down access only — timber steps lead you to the river. If you're thinking about trailering a boat, look elsewhere. Kayaks, canoes, and waders are the deal here.
Salmon Run Madness
During the fall salmon run, this spot gets absolutely packed. Shoulder-to-shoulder anglers lining the river below the dam. If you want any breathing room, get there at first light on a weekday.
Trash Problem
The crowds during peak season leave behind a mess — beer cans, bait containers, food wrappers everywhere. It's frustrating because it's a beautiful stretch of river that deserves better.
Parking Fills Fast
25 spots sounds decent until salmon season hits and cars are lined up along the road. Mid-September through October on weekends, you might be parking a quarter mile out and walking in.
Off-Season Gem
Outside of the fall run, this is a quiet, scenic access point on the Betsie with solid steelhead opportunities in spring. Way more pleasant when you're not competing for every pool.
