Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Parking Gets Tight Fast
Only 14 trailer spots at the free county lot, and trailers eat two spaces each — so realistically you're looking at maybe 7 rigs before it's full. The township lot just south of the ramp allows trailer parking for a fee, and on summer weekends you'll probably need it.
One At A Time
Two lanes on paper, but the narrow waterway and short dock mean you're effectively launching one boat at a time. If someone ahead of you is slow on the straps, you're just waiting. Weekday mornings are the move.
Best Option For Bigger Boats
This is the only public ramp on the Platte River around here that can handle anything beyond a kayak or small jon boat. If you're putting in a proper powerboat, this is your spot — there's really no alternative nearby.
Tough To Find At Night
No lighting at the ramp or on the water. Coming back in after dark on the river is genuinely tricky — there's no lit marker to guide you in. Bring a good spotlight and know the channel beforehand.
Signage Is Lacking
Finding this place the first time can be a bit of an adventure. Signage on Lake Michigan Road is minimal. Pull it up on GPS before you head out or you'll drive right past it.
