Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Dock Here
The biggest knock on the west ramp is there's no courtesy pier. You back in, slide the boat off, then scramble to board from the ramp edge or wade in. Solo launches are doable but awkward — having a buddy hold the boat makes a big difference. The sandy areas flanking the ramp work well for kayak put-ins though.
Parking Fills Fast
Twenty trailer spots sounds reasonable until a bass tournament rolls in — then you're out of luck. Normal summer weekends you're fine if you arrive before 9 AM, but by mid-morning the lot can be tight. There's no real overflow area, so latecomers end up circling or heading to the east side launch.
Single Lane Bottleneck
One lane means one boat at a time, period. On busy Saturdays people stack up waiting, and it gets chaotic when folks don't follow the counter-clockwise flow through the lot. Be patient, have your boat prepped before you get in line, and expect a 10-15 minute wait on peak days.
Great Kayak Access
The no-wake channels around the island area of Paw Paw Lake are perfect for paddlers and beginners. You can slip a kayak in off the sandy shoulders without competing for the ramp. It's honestly one of the better paddle launches on the lake for that reason alone.
West vs East Ramp
The east side launch over by Watervliet tends to draw more of the powerboat crowd. The west ramp is quieter on weekdays and sits in a calmer residential area, but the lack of a dock and single lane make it the weaker option when things get busy. If you're trailering a bigger boat on a Saturday, try the east side first.
