Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Pothole Minefield
The parking lot is rough — we're talking ankle-twisting potholes that have been an issue for a while and never seem to get fixed. Go slow backing in, especially with a longer trailer, and watch your step when you're out of the truck.
Dock Etiquette Wars
People fish off the dock and don't always move when you're trying to load or unload. On busy summer days the whole staging area can feel chaotic with foot traffic, shore anglers, and trailers all competing for the same space. Patience is mandatory.
Parking Fills Fast
28 trailer spots sounds decent until you realize non-trailer vehicles park in them too — beachgoers, sightseers, you name it. Summer weekends, get there by 8 AM or you're circling. No real overflow option nearby.
Big Rigs Tight Fit
Two lanes on paper, but if you're running a 30-foot trailer it gets tight. The approach and turnaround area weren't designed for big rigs. Anything under 24 feet is comfortable; beyond that, you'll be making a few extra cuts.
State Park Pass Required
This is administered by Fort Custer, so you need a Recreation Passport — $15 for the season. Easy to forget since it's smack in the middle of Battle Creek and doesn't feel like a state facility at all.
