Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Brutal Access Road
You're driving miles of rough, unpaved two-track to get here — expect washboard, potholes, and mud if it's rained recently. High clearance helps a lot. Don't bring anything you're not willing to bounce around.
Dam Drawdown Warning
Water levels are down 6-7 feet due to a dam drawdown, and the dam's future is uncertain. What used to be a beautiful flooding is a shadow of itself at low pool. Check before you make the long drive in — you might show up to exposed mud flats.
No Real Ramp
There's no formal boat ramp here — zero lanes. You're hand-launching kayaks, canoes, or small inflatables from the bank. Forget anything on a trailer. The six trailer spots are really just pull-offs for vehicles.
Total Off-Grid Experience
No cell service, no amenities, no crowds. Electric motors only, no gas. On a weekday you might have the entire flooding to yourself. It's one of those rare spots where you genuinely disconnect — that's the whole draw.
Worth It For Kayakers
If you can handle the drive and the low water, this is an incredible paddle. Tons of wildlife along the shoreline — herons, turtles, frogs, and solid birding. Bass fishing is decent but mostly small fish due to heavy pressure. Bring a fly rod and enjoy the scenery.
