Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Traditional Ramp
There are zero actual lanes here — this is a carry-in access point on Forest Resource Division land. You're sliding kayaks and canoes down to the Sturgeon River, not backing a trailer in. If you're hauling a boat bigger than a canoe, look elsewhere.
Trailer Spots Are Generous
Three marked trailer spots sounds tiny, but given this is a paddle-craft launch on a fast-moving river, it's usually enough. Most folks using this access are getting shuttled by the local outfitter and leaving vehicles at the takeout, so there's rarely a parking crunch.
Fast Current, Rocky Shallows
The Sturgeon moves quick through here with plenty of bends, riffles, and tight turns. The shallows are rocky enough to chew up bare feet and scrape hulls. If you're bringing your own boat, keep that in mind — shallow-draft and maneuverable is the name of the game.
Outfitter Hub Nearby
Sturgeon River Paddlesports operates shuttle service right from this stretch, which means summer weekends bring steady traffic — rafts, kayaks, and tubes flowing past all day. If you want a quieter paddle, early morning weekdays are your window. By mid-morning on Saturdays the river has a parade feel.
Finding The Access
Signage to this spot is minimal at best. You're navigating onto FRD land and it's easy to blow past the turnoff if you don't know what you're looking for. Pull it up on GPS before you head out — don't count on roadside signs to guide you in.
