Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Dock Quirks
There are three docks, but don't count on all three being usable. One tends to sit low — sometimes partially submerged — and floating debris like logs and branches collects around the dock slots, especially after storms. Give it a quick scan before you commit to a lane.
Parking Pressure
The lot is big — maybe 50+ trailer spots with extra car parking — but non-trailer vehicles love to grab trailer spots, and that eats capacity fast. Weekends fill up. If you're heading out for a sunrise bite early in the season, expect 5+ boats already queued up at first light. Get there early or be patient.
No-Wake Zone Adds Time
There's a no-wake zone running up and down the Saginaw River from the launch, so factor in extra transit time to reach the bay mouth. It's not far to open water, but at idle speed it adds 10-15 minutes each way. Not a dealbreaker, just plan for it.
Winter Ace In The Hole
This is one of the few launches around that stays accessible in winter. When every other dock in the area is pulled, Coggins usually keeps at least one dock in. If you're chasing open water on Saginaw Bay in January or February, this might be your only option.
No Fish Cleaning Station
For a launch this popular at the mouth of the Saginaw River — walleye central in spring — the lack of a fish cleaning station is a real miss. Bring your own setup or plan to clean at home.
