Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Wind Protection
This launch sits in a sheltered pocket off Tawas Bay, so you're not fighting Lake Huron swells while loading or unloading. It's a real advantage over more exposed launches up the coast — you can get on the water here when other spots are whitecapping.
Weekend Parking Crunch
Sixty-nine trailer spots sounds like plenty, and midweek it absolutely is. But summer weekends — especially Saturday mornings in July and August — the lot turns into a mess. Get there before 8 AM or you'll be circling. Weekdays are a ghost town by comparison.
Jet Ski Congestion
The ramp area draws jet skiers who like to loop around right at the launch zone. They're not malicious, just oblivious, but it can slow you down getting your boat on or off the trailer. Keep your head on a swivel backing in on busy days.
Tick Country
The surrounding dunes and brush are loaded with ticks, especially May through July. If you're walking the shoreline or heading toward Tawas Point, do a thorough check when you get back to the truck. This isn't a maybe — it's a when.
State Park Admin
Tawas Point State Park runs the show here, so you'll need a Recreation Passport on your vehicle. There's a seasonal porta potty but no running water or permanent restrooms. The launch attendant is usually around and genuinely helpful — not just there to collect fees.
