Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Harbor Mouth Shoaling
The channel out of the harbor is silting in and getting narrow. Dredging is supposedly scheduled for 2026, but right now you need to stay centered and watch your depth finder heading out. Bigger boats especially — don't cut corners at the mouth.
Low Spot Near Ramp
There's a shallow patch right near the launch area that has caught people off guard. At least one boat got hung up needing help into deeper water. If you're running a deeper-draft hull, power through steadily and don't idle around near the ramp.
Algae On Ramp
The ramp surface gets slick with algae, especially mid to late season. The concrete itself is in good shape, but your feet will go out from under you if you're not paying attention while guiding the trailer. Wear shoes with grip.
Rarely Crowded
Six lanes and 106 trailer spots inside a harbor of refuge — even on holiday weekends this place doesn't pack out. Lake Huron fishing pressure has dropped off over the years, so you'll often have multiple lanes open. It's one of the most stress-free launches on this stretch of coast.
More Than A Ramp
The whole setup here is genuinely nice — seawall for watching boats, a little playground, pavilion, picnic area. If you're bringing family along who aren't getting on the water, they'll actually be comfortable hanging out while you fish. The harbor sits right in the town of Harrisville, so food and fuel are close.
