Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not Really Official
Despite what the state records say, this is essentially an unmaintained access point. There's no defined launch area and the DNR doesn't treat it as a proper ramp, so come with low expectations and a sense of adventure.
Conflicting Info
You'll hear people talk about this like it's a legit multi-lane ramp, but that's the nearby marina they're thinking of. The actual Prentiss Bay state site is a rough, informal access with maybe two trailer spots and no real improvements.
Deep Water Surprise
The water off the access drops off fast, which is actually a plus — you're not going to bottom out your lower unit or drag your trailer through muck. Getting to that water is the tricky part since there's no maintained launch surface.
Small Boats Only
With no real ramp structure and only a couple spots to park a trailer, this is a kayak or small jon boat situation. Don't show up with a 21-foot walleye rig expecting a smooth launch — you'll be turning around on a narrow dirt path.
