Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Pay Station Gotcha
There's a $5-6 launch fee, but the pay station isn't obvious — especially if you're rolling in before dawn for a salmon run. The sign is easy to miss, and parking enforcement doesn't care that you couldn't find it at 4am. Walk the lot and look for it before you leave your trailer.
Wind Protected Ramp
Four lanes with a smooth surface, and the ramp sits in a sheltered spot that blocks most of the wind and chop off Huron. That's a big deal up here — plenty of other Straits-area launches will beat you up on a windy day. This one lets you load and unload without fighting sideways current.
Dock Length Limit
If you're running anything over 30 feet, the docks are going to feel tight. Fine for walleye rigs and typical fishing boats, but guys trailering bigger cruisers to the Straits should plan accordingly or bring someone to hold the bow line while you park.
Parking Situation
Officially listed as no dedicated trailer spots, but there's actually a large open lot with plenty of room. Weekend mornings during salmon season fill up, but midweek you'll have no trouble. Just make sure you're legal — they do ticket.
Cleanest Facilities Around
The bathrooms here are genuinely well-maintained, which is borderline miraculous for a public launch. There's also a fish cleaning station that actually works. If you've used some of the other ramps in the eastern UP, you'll appreciate the difference.
