Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Small Boats Only
This is a primitive, unimproved launch — think jon boats, canoes, and small aluminum rigs. Don't try backing a 20-footer down here. The ramp is basic and the river isn't deep enough in spots to justify anything with serious draft.
Bug Armor Required
From late May through July, the mosquitoes and black flies here are absolutely vicious. A Thermacell isn't optional, it's survival gear. If you're launching at dusk, you'll be eaten alive without it.
True Back-Pocket Spot
This place rarely fills up, even on holiday weekends when everything else in the eastern UP is booked solid. Fifteen trailer spots sounds tight, but you'll almost never compete for space. It's too far off the beaten path for casual traffic.
Remote Access Road
Getting here takes some commitment — you're driving deep into state forest land on gravel roads with minimal signage. Have your GPS loaded before you lose cell signal, because you will lose it. The road is passable but rough in spring after snowmelt tears it up.
River To Munuscong Lake
The real payoff is paddling or motoring downstream to Munuscong Lake and the St. Marys River system. The river itself is narrow and winding with occasional shallow stretches, so keep your motor trimmed up. Great pike water in spring if you're willing to work the bends.
