Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Freighter Wakes
The St. Marys River carries big freighter traffic, and those ships throw serious wakes. Water levels at the ramp can swing noticeably when one passes — keep your boat tied tight to the dock while you park the trailer, or you might come back to it sitting on mud or banging against concrete.
Ramp Quality
The concrete is grooved for traction and wide enough to handle bigger boats without stress. Two lanes mean you're almost never waiting, and the dock gives you plenty of room to tie off and maneuver. One of the nicer-maintained ramps you'll find in the eastern UP.
Parking Is Rarely An Issue
41 trailer spots and this launch just doesn't get hammered the way places closer to the Soo do. Even on summer weekends you'll find open spots. Only time it might get snug is during a salmon run, but even then it's manageable.
Worth The Drive
Administered by Brimley State Park, so it gets regular upkeep — vaulted outhouse, clean lot, no overgrown mess. It's a bit of a trek off the main roads, but that's exactly why it stays uncrowded. If you're fishing the river or just want a relaxed launch without the chaos of the I-75 corridor ramps, this is your spot.
