Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Real Launch
There's no ramp here — zero lanes, no trailer parking. This is a wade-in fishing spot on the East Branch of the Tahquamenon, not a boat launch. If you're determined, you could hand-carry a canoe or kayak and put in below the bridge, but that's about it.
Rough Two-Track In
The access road off M-123 is an unmarked two-track through the woods. Easy to blow right past it. It's bumpy enough that you'll want decent clearance, and towing a trailer back there would be miserable even if there were somewhere to park one.
June Flies Are Brutal
The black flies in late May and June are absolutely savage here. The stream keeps them breeding and happy. Bring a head net or you'll be donating blood the entire time. By mid-July they calm down considerably.
Worth The Detour On Foot
The old brick bridge over the tea-colored water is genuinely beautiful, and there's an artesian well and historical markers about trout conservation. It's more of a peaceful picnic-and-wade-fish destination than any kind of boating access. Brook trout fishing in the stream is the real draw.
Trails Can Disappear
The trails around the pond get overgrown fast, especially by midsummer. If you're trying to find the actual trout pond, it can be tough to navigate once the vegetation takes over. Stick close to the stream and you'll stay oriented.
