Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Wake Lake
Lake Ovid is strictly no wake, so leave the speed boat at home. It's a kayak and small fishing boat paradise — incredibly peaceful on weekday mornings. If you show up expecting to open the throttle, you'll be disappointed and stuck.
Weedy Later On
By mid-summer the vegetation gets thick, especially in the shallower arms. If you're casting lures, expect to pull weeds in with every retrieve. Stick to soft plastics worked slow or switch to bobber rigs — the bluegill and bass are in there, just buried in the salad.
South Ramp Preferred
Three lanes but the south-side ramp is the smoothest one to use. The other lanes feel tighter, especially if you're running anything wider than a 16-footer. Line up for the south lane and you'll save yourself some aggravation on a busy Saturday.
Parking Is Rarely An Issue
With 68 trailer spots, this place almost never fills up — the no-wake rule keeps the big-boat crowd away. Even holiday weekends you'll find space. State park recreation passport is required for entry, so have that sorted before you pull in.
Shallow Throughout
Average depth is only about 10 feet and it maxes out around 23. You'll find the deeper water near the dam, but most of the lake is single-digit depth. Great for kids learning to fish from a dock, and the fishing docks on both sides of the launch are solid for that.
