Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Perpetually Wet Lot
The parking area is soggy year-round — not just during spring floods. With only 7 trailer spots on soft ground, you'll want to think twice about pulling in after any rain. I've seen trucks spin tires just trying to back out.
Spring Flooding Reality
Every spring, this launch goes underwater. The Maple River spills over and the whole access area becomes part of the river for weeks. Don't even bother until water levels drop well into May some years. Even then, expect mud and debris on the ramp.
Rocky Shallow River
The Maple River through here runs slow and shallow with big rocks scattered throughout. Great for fishing from a kayak or small jon boat, but don't bring anything with real draft. Expect to scrape bottom or walk your boat through stretches, especially late summer when levels drop.
No Cell Without Verizon
AT&T is completely dead at this launch and the surrounding area. You need to drive about a mile out before you get even one bar. Verizon is the only carrier that works on site. Plan accordingly if you're meeting someone or need navigation.
Flathead Catfish Spot
This stretch of the Maple River holds solid flathead catfish. If you're launching a small boat specifically to target cats, this is a better bet than driving further. Just manage your expectations on the single lane and tight parking — get there early on weekends or you're out of luck.
