Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Real Ramp
Despite the DNR listing, there's no concrete ramp or defined lanes here. You're basically sliding a canoe or kayak down the riverbank. If you're thinking about trailering a boat, forget it — there are no trailer spots and nowhere practical to park a rig.
Rocky & Shallow River
The Maple River through here is slow-moving, shallow, and full of big rocks. Kayakers regularly get hung up in low-water sections, and marshy stretches can block your path entirely. It's fishable water — walleye, crappie, and big flathead catfish — but don't expect to cover a lot of river distance.
Small Craft Only
This is canoe and kayak territory, period. People pull small boats right up on the bank at their campsites, but there's no infrastructure for anything with a motor. If you need a proper launch for a bass boat, you'll have to look elsewhere in Clinton County.
No Cell Without Verizon
AT&T gets zero signal on site — you'll have to drive about a mile out before you pick up even one bar. Verizon is the only carrier that works reliably here. Something to know if you're heading out solo.
