Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Canoe & Small Boat Only
This is really a paddle-craft and small johnboat launch. One narrow lane with a gentle grade down to the Au Sable — perfect for canoes, kayaks, and light fishing boats, but don't try to wrestle anything over 16 feet in here.
Parking Goes Fast
Only 10 trailer spots, and on summer weekends they fill by mid-morning. If you're planning a float trip and leaving a shuttle vehicle, coordinate carefully or you'll be parking on the shoulder of the road.
Gorgeous But Quiet
This stretch of the Au Sable is stunning — clear water, wooded banks, and very little development. It feels remote even though it's not far off the road. Great spot to put in for a peaceful upstream paddle or drift downstream with a fly rod.
Old-School Access Point
This site has been a public launch since the mid-1960s and it shows — no frills whatsoever. No dock, no fish-cleaning station, no restroom nearby. Bring what you need and pack it out. That said, the simplicity is part of the charm.
River Conditions Matter
Spring runoff can push the current hard through here and raise water levels enough to swamp the ramp area. By late summer, the river drops and you might be dragging your canoe over gravel the last few feet. Mid-June through July is the sweet spot.
