Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tiny Lot, Plan Ahead
Four trailer spots fill fast on summer weekends — if you're not there by 8 AM on a Saturday, you're out of luck. There's no real overflow area, so showing up midweek is the move.
Winter Gravel Lane
There's a separate gravel ramp lane specifically for winter access, which is a nice touch for ice fishing season. It holds up better than the primary lane when things freeze and thaw repeatedly.
Single Lane Patience
One paved lane means you're taking turns if anyone else shows up. Not a big deal on a quiet Tuesday, but on a holiday weekend with only four parking spots, even two boats can create a bottleneck at the ramp.
Loon Lake Vibes
Hamilton Lake is a quieter UP lake with a solid loon population — gorgeous spot if you want peace and decent fishing without the circus of bigger Dickinson County launches. Being part of Bewabic State Park keeps it well-maintained compared to some of the more neglected DNR sites up here.
