Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Small Water Feel
This is a quiet impoundment launch, not a big-lake scene. You're putting in on the East Branch Sturgeon River backed up behind a dam — perfect for small boats, canoes, and kayaks. Don't bring anything too big or deep-drafting.
One Lane, No Rush
Single lane with 12 trailer spots, so it's not built for heavy traffic. Weekday mornings you'll have the place to yourself. Weekend afternoons in summer can get a little tight if families are camping and fishing nearby, but it's rarely a real wait.
Township-Run, Basic Setup
Breen Township took this over from the county back in 2016. It's maintained but don't expect anything fancy — no courtesy dock, no fish cleaning station. Signage is decent thanks to the modern Waterways markers, so finding the ramp itself isn't bad once you're in the park.
Shallow Near Ramp
The impoundment can get weedy and shallow near the launch area, especially by late summer when water levels drop. If you're running anything with a prop, idle out slow and watch your depth until you're well off the bank.
