Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Portage Access Only
There's no real ramp here — no concrete, no lanes, just a rough carry-down path to the water. You're dragging your kayak or canoe in by hand, so plan accordingly. Anything with a trailer isn't happening.
Kayak Entry Tricky
Getting a kayak to the waterline is awkward. The bank is uneven and can be muddy, especially in spring. Wear shoes you don't care about and bring a buddy if your boat is heavy.
Doubles As Overflow
The parking area here also serves as overflow for the Tamarack Lake launch nearby. On a busy Saturday you might show up and find the small lot taken by Tamarack trailers, even though nobody's on Saubee.
Good Panfish Water
Saubee is a quiet little lake worth the effort if you're chasing bluegill and bass from a small boat or kayak. Non-motorized vibes keep the pressure low and the fish cooperative, especially early morning on weekdays.
Truly Rustic Feel
This is deep Barry State Game Area territory — no amenities, no signage to speak of, and the access road is dirt. If you're expecting anything polished, recalibrate. But if you want solitude on a small lake with almost no one else around, this is it.
