Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Campers-Only Launch
There's no dedicated trailer parking here — you're expected to park your rig back at your campsite. This is really only practical if you're already camping at the south campground. Day-use boaters should look elsewhere.
Small Boats Only
Single lane, and it's a campground ramp, so temper your expectations. A 21-foot bass boat can make it work, but you're threading the needle. Kayaks and small aluminum boats are the sweet spot here.
Peak Season Chaos
If your campsite is near the launch, summer weekends get noisy and busy with constant trailer traffic. The sites right by the ramp lose their charm fast when boats are coming and going all day.
Warm Water Fishery
Duck Lake warms up way faster than Lake Michigan, and the bass fishing is legitimately good even in the heat of summer. Sandy bottom, pleasant water — it's a reliable producer when bigger lakes are being stingy.
Off-Season Access
The south campground closes for the season, which can cut off ramp access entirely. If you're planning a fall or early spring trip, confirm the gate situation before you drive out there.
