Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Real Ramp
Despite being called a boat ramp, there are no defined lanes and no trailer parking. You can get a small aluminum boat or kayak in the water here, but don't show up expecting to back a trailer down. It's more of a hand-launch spot.
Upper Entry Access
This puts you on the Portage River with a relatively short run to the Upper Entry into Lake Superior near McLain State Park, or you can head the other direction into the 24-mile Keweenaw Waterway. Nice position if you're in a smaller boat and want options.
Fishing Has Declined
Used to be a solid spot for shoreline fishing, but the bite has dropped off significantly in recent years. You might pull the occasional bullhead, but don't plan a trip around it. The real value now is as a quiet launch point to access better water elsewhere.
Hidden Gem For Hanging Out
There's an outhouse, broadside mooring along the bank, and it's tucked far enough off the main roads that you'll often have the place to yourself. Great lunch spot or a place to let the dog swim. Just don't expect any amenities beyond the basics.
