Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Real Ramp
There's no actual boat ramp here — no lanes, no trailer parking, nothing paved. If you're hoping to back a trailer down, keep driving. This is strictly a carry-in spot for canoes and kayaks heading onto the Portage River.
Paddle Access Only
Swedetown Creek feeds into the Portage River here, and it works fine for dropping a kayak or small canoe in. Don't expect anything more than a muddy bank to slide off of. Bring waterproof boots.
Trails Worth Knowing
The real draw here is the trail system — Swedetown trails are popular with hikers and mountain bikers in summer and skiers in winter. If you're combining a paddle with a hike, this is a solid spot for that kind of day.
Extremely Low Traffic
You'll probably have this spot entirely to yourself. It sees almost zero boating use, and the City of Hancock leases it to the DNR through McLain State Park, so maintenance is minimal at best. Don't expect signage to guide you in — know where you're going before you head out.
