Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Submerged Timber Everywhere
Prickett was created by flooding a forested valley back in 1931, and those old tree tops are still there — some poking above the surface, others lurking just below. Idle speed is the only safe speed until you really learn the lake. Even then, keep your eyes open.
Wind Can Trap You
If you're in a canoe or kayak, pay close attention to the wind before you head out. A west or northwest wind will blow straight down the lake and make the paddle back to the ramp absolutely brutal. It's 810 acres of open fetch with nothing to break it up.
Small Lot, Rarely Full
Eight trailer spots sounds tight, but this is deep Houghton County — you're not competing with crowds. Even on summer weekends, you'll almost always find a spot. Ice fishing season sees a bit more traffic, but still manageable.
Solid Winter Access
The ramp and lot work well as a staging point for ice fishing. The concrete ramp holds up and the parking area gets enough use to stay passable in winter. Walleye are the main draw once the ice sets in.
Remote But Worth It
This is surrounded by dense forest with almost no development on the shoreline — feels like you've gone back in time. The ramp itself is concrete and in decent shape, and there are well-maintained docks adjacent. Just don't expect cell service or any amenities beyond what's right at the launch.
