Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Weeds At The Ramp
The launch area collects weeds, especially mid-to-late summer. It's not catastrophic, but the growth can foul your lower unit if you're not paying attention while backing in. The ramp angle is also a bit shallow, so lower-slung trailers can struggle at certain water levels.
Festival Weekends Are Chaos
Cheeseburger in Caseville (early August) and other festivals pack this town to the gills. The 35 trailer spots in the main lot and 12 across the street will be gone by mid-morning on festival weekends. If you're launching during Cheeseburger week, get there at dawn or don't bother.
Staff Keeps It Moving
The harbor crew actively helps launch and load boats, which is a huge deal on busy days with only two lanes. Even when there's a line, the wait is shorter than you'd expect because they hustle people through. Tip: be rigged and ready before you get to the ramp — they don't appreciate dockside prep.
Submerged Hazards Near Entry
There are old dock remnants and steel pylons underwater near the launch area. If you drift off the main channel heading out, you can clip something ugly. Stay between the markers and don't cut corners — this isn't a forgiving harbor for wandering.
Expansion Coming
As of late 2025, they're adding more trailer spaces and a carry-down launch. That's long overdue — the $10 daily fee has always felt steep for a cramped parking situation. Once the expansion is done, this could become the best launch option in the upper Thumb for Saginaw Bay access. Short run to open water and walkable town for your crew waiting onshore.
