Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Dam Downstream Right
When you launch, go LEFT down the river. There's a dam to the right that's not well-marked from the water. Not something you want to discover by accident, especially with current pushing you that direction.
Spring Flooding Wipes It Out
This spot floods every spring — count on losing access for weeks at a time, sometimes well into May depending on the year. The ramp and parking area get submerged and silted over, so early season launches can be sketchy even after water drops.
Rough Drive In
The driveway is riddled with potholes and the signage from the road is practically nonexistent. A truck handles it fine, but if you're in a sedan towing a small trailer, take it slow. First-timers often drive right past the turnoff.
Five Spots Fill Fast
Only five trailer spots, so summer evenings and weekends you're competing for space. No overflow area to speak of — if it's full, you're turning around. Best bet is early morning or midweek. This is really a kayak and small-boat launch, not the place to bring a 20-footer.
Flatheads Are Gone
If you're coming here chasing flathead catfish, save yourself the trip — it's mostly bullheads now. The wildlife is still outstanding though. Turtles stacked on every log, otters, herons, snakes. Gorgeous paddle if you head left and work downstream.
