Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Trailer Parking
There are zero designated trailer spots here, so you're basically limited to car-top boats — canoes, kayaks, small inflatables. If you're pulling a trailer, you'll be improvising on the street or blocking someone in.
Rough Ramp Surface
The ramp is built with 1-foot planks, and they've seen better days. It's not a smooth concrete slab — expect gaps and uneven footing, especially when wet. Watch your step carrying gear down.
Flat River Reality
The Flat River below the dam can be surprisingly shallow depending on the season. Spring runoff gives you the best paddling conditions; by late summer you might be dragging over gravel bars within the first half mile.
Curfew Enforced
City posts hours of 7:30am to 11:30pm, so no pre-dawn launches. If you're an early-bird walleye chaser hoping to hit the dam pool at first light in June, you're out of luck until well after sunrise.
Small-Town Access
It's a city-run spot in Belding, so don't expect anything fancy — no dock, no fish cleaning station. But it's a quick drop-in for a river float, and you'll rarely have company on a weekday. Great for a quiet paddle downstream if your expectations match the setup.
