Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Muddy & Slick Ramp
The ramp is a mix of old 1-foot and 5-foot planks, and the edges get muddy and slick, especially after rain. You'll want to watch your footing if you're hand-launching a kayak — it's manageable but not graceful.
Small Lot Fills Fast
Only 9 trailer spots, so if you're trailering a boat on a summer weekend, get there early or you're out of luck. Kayakers and bank fishermen take up spots too, since the little park and fishing dock draw a crowd.
Shallow Upper River
The Grand through here runs pretty shallow and calm. Fine for kayaks, canoes, and small johnboats, but don't expect to run anything with much draft. This isn't the place for your deep-V.
Great Paddle Stretch
Downstream toward the village of Saranac is a gorgeous float — bald eagles, great blue herons, kingfishers, deer along the banks. One of the prettier paddle runs in Kent County, honestly. Easy current, nothing technical.
Surprisingly Nice Facilities
For a small village launch, the amenities punch above their weight: clean restrooms, benches, a newer fishing dock right at the site. It's a pleasant spot to hang out even if the fishing is slow.
