Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Steep Access Warning
The descent from the parking area down to the water is no joke — it's a legit cliff-side grade. If you're hauling gear, take your time. Dollying a heavy cooler down there is an adventure in itself.
Tube & Kayak Chaos
Summer weekends this place gets absolutely swamped with tubers, kayakers, and canoeists. If you're trying to launch a trailered boat, you'll be threading through a circus. Early mornings or weekday trips are the move from June through August.
Parking Fills Fast
Only 15 trailer spots, and with all the paddle traffic in summer, those fill by mid-morning on Saturdays. There's no real overflow area, so if you show up late you're out of luck or blocking somebody in.
Single Lane Bottleneck
One lane means one boat launching or loading at a time. Pair that with the summer tubing crowd milling around the ramp area and you can burn 30 minutes just waiting your turn. Keep your rig ready to go before you get in line.
Great for River Access
What makes this spot worth the hassle is the Au Sable access below Foote Dam — solid current, good fishing structure, and you're right in productive water. It's managed through Tawas Point State Park on Consumers Energy land, so it stays reasonably maintained even if it's not fancy.
