Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tiny Parking Crunch
Only two trailer spots, and the lot is shared with beach-goers and hikers. On a summer weekend, you might find it full by mid-morning. If you're towing anything, get there early or plan for a weekday trip.
Small Boat Water
This is kayak, canoe, and small fishing boat territory — don't bring anything big. Essentially zero boat traffic on the lake, which makes it dead calm and great for paddling, but it tells you all you need to know about the size and depth limitations.
Bug Gauntlet
Horseflies and mosquitoes are brutal here, especially on the trails. Mid-summer can be rough even at the ramp. Bring serious repellent — this is deep UP woods and they're relentless.
Tea-Colored But Clean
The water has a tannin stain to it, so visibility isn't crystal. Sandy bottom near shore gives way to muck further out. Don't let the color fool you — the lake fishes well for perch, bluegill, and bass right from the shallows.
Worth The Drive
About 15 minutes from Crystal Falls on quiet roads. Signage to the campground is decent, but it feels remote once you're in. The payoff is a completely undeveloped lake with almost no pressure — hard to find that anywhere else in Iron County.
